Things I’m Doing
Spreading myself too thin.
But that's OK, because I take pride and joy in all of the work I do. Sometimes, I feel like I'm not doing enough work, to which my close friends call me insane for thinking. Here's what I've been doing with my time aside from blogging here.
(Note: I normally don't do this whole ''Sorry for all the lack of updating omglol" because I know no one cares about how infrequently I update or every little thing I'm doing with my life, but I felt compelled.)

Cultural Project: Found Bookmarks
My friend Mene Tekel explained a discovery he made: People tend to leave lots of bookmarks in books they donate to thrift stores, and no one bothers to remove them. Now, plain old bookmarks sound boring, but that's not all we found.
After raiding about ten stores, we had gathered about 150 pieces. I categorized and scanned them as follows: Actual Bookmarks (28), Business Cards (5), Photos (11), Receipts (13), Tickets (16), Handwriting (27), and Misc. (49).
My original intent was to make a giant collage out of them, but it was hard to make sense of them all. Instead, I opted to matte each piece and put them in a web gallery. The categories are still intact, but they're all separate and in no particular order of preference.
The people who've heard about this project only ask why. This time, I really don't know. I think there's something about fragments of information and images that intrigues me. It's like life is one big mystery and these bookmarks are small clues leading up to some sort of high perspective. Yeah, that sounds complicated to me too.

Preface: It was a strange night so far, and Tekel and I were wandering around his neighborhood dumpster diving. All the usual locations were hit with no apparent luck. That changed once we discovered a huge pile of discarded children's toys, video games, DVD cases, and most importantly, VHS cassettes.
Many of the tapes were Disney flicks. Some were unlabeled. I found one that had the old Kodak label design on it, reminding me of the tapes my family dubbed our home movies on back in the early '90s. For whatever reason, I decide to throw it into the ever-growing bin of stuff to take. It turned out to be the best find of the night, and even this entire year of dumpster diving.
